Officially as of 21/08/2020, the government is financially supporting our research and development project to create our so-called “Carbon Algorithm”.

Big thanks to VLAIO in believing and supporting us in our dreams and ambitions!

Below we answer some of the basic questions you might have while reading the headline :

What is the Carbon algorithm?

The “Carbon” Algorithm is a self-learning algorithm that allows its users to always take the most energy-efficient combination of any sort of rotating equipment.

What will it look like? Because an algorithm is just a bunch of code…

The algorithm itself and the mathematical functionality is already working in a closed software environment on our home server. In fact, we have a raw version of it (with a lot of manual inputs) to analyze existing situations. We want to take this algorithm, automate it, pack it into a modular PLC, cram it into a circuit board, and make it run in a fraction of a second. – Sounds easier than it really is.

What will be the advantages?

“Plug & Play” -> Will not need any complicated configuration and will be able to make the difference between fixed RPM machines and variable speed drive machines or equipment.  Universal for all manufacturer types and all types of equipment.  These include, but are not limited to, engines, compressors, turbines, pumps, generators, blowers, and gearboxes,…

“Limited installation costs” -> We will build and sell it in such a manner that we guarantee the lowest possible ROI for every type of customer. Based on the complexity of the situation and the size of the installation we should be always able to stay under an ROI of 2 years.

“Self-configuring and self-learning” -> The power of simplicity combined with self-learning capabilities. When the customer has sufficient sensors or is willing to place some extra sensors the algorithm will account for losses and other mechanical failures. Ensuring that at any given time the most optimal solution will function.

“Reduced energy consumption” -> The absolute minimum use of energy will always be possible no matter which setup of rotating equipment there is or how big the combinations get. Estimates are highly dependent on the combination of equipment and if the equipment has been properly configured, but has an unlimited potential ranging from 5 – 50% or more in the reduction of power consumption.

“Redundancy” -> Because of the way it is built up OTB-Engineering will maximize redundancy. Meaning that if 1 module fails or some equipment fails the algorithm will pick this up and automatically switch to the next available module and or equipment until the failure is fixed.

“Modular and flexible” -> Will be built so that all you need is an analog- or digital input signal telling the PLC what flow, pressure, velocity, or whatever you want to achieve and the PLC will automatically translate it into a digital or analog output signal to all the machines connected to it.

We are living in the 21st century… how come this hasn’t been built before?

To answer this question we have built a nice presentation explaining the difficulties encountering while going through our thought process. Link here.
Apart from the technical issues developing this, it’s a matter of having the right expertise in the right field at the right point in time.
